Creative Edge…

Lori Andrus in Sedona“If we are going to learn to soar, we have to know ourselves as well as we know our craft.”
– Dewitt Jones

I just love this quote!  And this past week I took some time to do just that.  I traveled to sunny Arizona where I stepped off the beaten path to not only explore the Arizona landscape, but explore my own landscape.

It was wonderful…

I hiked, paused to watch the sunset, spent time with old friends, made new friends, and even took time to sit upon a red rock and enjoy the scenery while playing my flute for hours.

For me, sacred escapes such as this are essential to recharging my creative spirit…the deeper I know me…the further I am able to push my creative boundaries.

Each of us has a creative edge to push regardless of whether or not we acknowledge ourselves as creative.

“If creativity is falling in love with the world, then in every act I have the potential for doing something creative, my life can be my art. ”  -Dewitt Jones Lori & Amethyst

I invite you to take a moment today and “fall in love with the world.”

1st Chakra – Root Chakra

A little about your Chakras…

What is a a Chakra?  Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel. It is typically used in reference to 7 primary centers or “wheels” of energy from which we filter all forms of information from the world.

For the past 7 years I have been studying the Chakras in varying capacities, and that has greatly supported me in better understanding myself.  They have brought great inspiration to my life.  The image below is the first in a 7 painting series of the Chakras…an expression of that inspiration.

1st Chakra – Root Chakra …is the color red and located at the base of the spine.  It is our connection to Mother Earth and creates a sense of being grounded and fully present in our physical body.  Emotionally it is connected to all aspects of safety, security, and the ability to provide for life’s necessities.

Body Parts:  adrenal glands, kidneys, spinal column, colon, legs, bone.

Affiirmation:  Deeply rooted and grounded in life, I recognize and honor my authentic nature.

Ruby ….a stone of prosperity.  Awakening the root chakra, they encourage you to become deeply rooted in Mother Earth, and they stimulate a flow of energy throughout the body.

Garnet …a stone of passion.  They awaken a sense of self-worth & help you to see the beauty of your own gifts so you may share them with others

Brecciated Jasper …brings inner strength, focused attention, and self-mastery.  It deeps your connection to Mother Earth and creates an awareness of how she nurtures your dreams and provides all you need.

Huayruro Seed …These playful red seeds are believed to promote health and bring good luck.  They are a reminder that as we plant the seeds of our dreams, nourish them, and allow them time to grow…our dreams, just as seeds, flourish.

The Secret Garden

Have you ever seen the movie “The Secret Garden?”  Growing up, it was one of my favorites.  It enchanted me.

I loved the idea of having a secret garden…my own sacred space…where I could sit, and imagine, and dream…a place that always felt magical.

full moon I imagined having a magical connection to such a place, one that I could visit and, in stillness, watch the moon rise…tonight I did just that.  I sat in my “secret garden”… my “sacred garden” as Grandmother Moon rose in the northeast sky.  Just one night after being full, she arose radiant, and her glow inspiring.  With each inhale I breathed in her light, and with each exhale I expanded to meet her fullness.

Having such a sacred place is truly a treasure for me…one I believe each of us can create and experience.   Having such as space, whether indoors or out, offers us the opportunity to reconnect with our authentic self.  To let go of the daily struggles and challenges.  To reconnect with our vision and dreams.  And to reconnect with natures rhythms and cycles.

So tonight I invite you to step outside and witness the beautiful full moon…and I leave you with this question…Where is your Secret Garden?

Secret Garden Quotes

“The spell was broken.  My uncle learned to laugh, and I learned to cry. The secret garden is always open now.  Open, and awake, and alive. If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.” – Frances Hodgson Burnett

“As long as you have a garden you have a future and as long as you have a future you are alive.” -Frances Hodgson Burnett

“If I had a flower for every time I thought of you I could walk in my garden forever.” -Alfred Lord Tennyson

“I used to envy the father of our race, dwelling as he did among the new-made fields and plants of Eden; but I do so no more, for I have discovered that I also live in “creation’s dawn.”  The morning starts still sing together, and the world, not yet half made becomes more beautiful every day.”  -John Muir
